The Pride Potion Collection

I created this collection to celebrate the history of our community, and the beautiful emotional connection humans make with nature. Over time we have accumulated a great array of meaningful symbols representing our identity and love.
And while many of them have been born out of necessity for secrecy because of an overwhelming hostility towards the LGBTQIA+ community in the past, I believe they remain a great reminder to reflect on the challenges and achievements of our people.

  • "Give us our roses while we're still here" is a powerful phrase to celebrate trans lives and to remember the ones that have been lost to the violence that trans people are exposed to on a day to day basis. It emphasizes the importance of advocating for trans rights. Silence is compliance.

The butterly is a symbol often used by members of the Transgender community as it represents transformation and vulnerability, while dragonflies often represent change and self-realization.

  • The Dungowan Bush Tomato is exhibiting three different breeding systems at the same time and is considered sexually fruid, which, in my opinion, makes it a nice symbol for the Nonbinary community.

Frogs also seem to have become a popular comfort animal for many nonbinary people. Additionally, their general sexual ambiguity, as well as the fact that some species can grow both male and female reproductive organs, makes the frog a great unofficial mascot for our community.

  • African daisies have become a symbol of joy and resillience within the LGBTQIA+ community. Their ability to reproduce both sexually and asexually makes them the perfect flower to represent the Aces of the Alphabet Mafia.

Another great example of asexual reproduction in nature are the cape honey bees, which I included in the drawing as well.

The cake on the potion label is a nod to the phrase "Cake is better than sex" that many asexuals identify with.
